A Career at 9-1-1
Summary
  • The responsibility of the position is to dispatch Public Safety calls received, primarily through the 9-1-1 lines or other sources which may include radio, phone, alarm panels, etc. The dispatcher is trained on Call-Taking, Police, Sheriff, Fire, Medical and Police Information positions usually within 12-14 months. The dispatcher must be able to process emergency 9-1-1 and other calls by paying attention to detail when obtaining information, making split second decisions concerning the priority and nature of the incoming calls and assigning unit response in accordance with policies and procedures. This information is entered into a computer aided dispatch (CAD) system and must be relayed to responders in a concise and accurate manner using a radio system.

Requirements
  • Be at least eighteen years of age.
  • Be a citizen of the United States.
  • Be a High School graduate or possess an equivalancy.
  • Not have been convicted or pleaded guilty to or entered a plea of no contest to any felony charge or any violation of any federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances.
  • Not have been released or discharged under any other than an honorable or medical discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States.
  • Background Check including Criminal History and Drivers License
